New Moon in Leo

Leo’s evolutionary goal is to develop their authentic self-expression and showcase it. To leave tangible evidence of the contents of their imagination and heart in the world. To express their inner world outwardly, and to do so takes courage.

This new moon highlights our capacity to be embody the fullness of our authentic self-expression. The moon forms a harmonious aspect with Jupiter in Aries. Jupiter is symbolic of where we need to have more faith in ourselves. (wherever Jupiter lies in our chart is where we tend to underestimate ourselves and our gifts). Meanwhile, Aries and Leo asks us to harness our confidence and courage so that we can show up not only for ourselves, but to allow for the full expression of our inherent gifts and talents and the resulting impact that they can have on others.

Showing up in our authenticity takes courage as does expressing oneself vulnerably and from the heart. Both are courageous acts.

The shadow side of Leo is performing for the crowd rather than sharing from the heart, so under this Leo new moon and Leo season, ask yourself:

  • How can you show up more authentically?

  • Is there any part of you that is dimming your self-expression to cater to the crowd rather than following your heart’s guidance?

  • Expressing yourself authentically can be a vulnerable/courageous act. How can you invite playfulness and joy into the process to ease any discomfort?

  • Can you become your biggest supporter and speak to yourself in encouraging ways throughout the process?

To understand how this New Moon is impacting you, check to see what house Leo occupies in your birth chart. The Sun enters the sign of the performer, queen/king and child.

Leo’s evolutionary goal is to develop their authentic self-expression and reveal it. Performing and creating are pathways for Leo to cultivate this; no matter what creative outlet they choose (dancing, poetry, singing) — the endpoint lies is leaving tangible evidence of their thoughts, values, and inner life in the hands of the world.

Like the child in all of us, Leo desires to be seen, acknowledged, and celebrated. To be witnessed for baring their heart and soul to the world. To be applauded for their vulnerable self-expression is both soul nourishing and energizing for Leo.

Leo (season) is here to teach us to celebrate life, to create, and to maintain the spontaneity of a child as we move through life. Leo understands that we must seize the moment and bask in the warmth of our joy as the present moment is all we have.

Capricorn’s evolutionary goal is to merge their nature with their public identity which poses the question: how can we both embody and merge who we are are with our purpose? The answer lies in finding a cause, mission or work that is worthy of you. A mountain that is worthy of climbing, meaning one that is worthy of your complete focus, discipline, and commitment. Because of their ambition, Capricorn has the capacity to navigate any challenging terrain as symbolized by the sea goat.

In order to accomplish great work — solitude and saying no to temporary satisfaction and gratification is often required. Capricorn is in it for the long haul and the satisfaction that comes from reaching the top of the mountain. Nothing tastes sweeter than standing upon the vision they created as they bask in the knowing that they gave it their all.

The full Moon is opposite the Sun in Cancer. Both Cancer and Capricorn value security but have different pathways of achieving it. Cancer finds it through inner and outer safety — creating safe and nourishing spaces with people they love and trust — while Capricorn finds it through putting their entire being into their mission, accomplishing great work, and a job done immaculately. The full Moon illuminates this polarity.

So with this full Moon ask yourself: are you focusing so intently on your goals to the point where you are neglecting to care for yourself? In what ways can you redefine success to include a healthy dose of self-care and relaxation in between? (*Venus trine Saturn) This full Moon asks us to not only reevaluate what success mean to us, but to envision (*Neptune) what that looks like regardless of what society defines or deems as being successful (*Mercury sextile Uranus). How can we create more supportive structures for ourselves in achieving our goals and move away from the restriction and intensity (*Pluto) that we often put ourselves through in the process of bringing our goals to life?

Carving out alone time, getting cozy with a good book and your favorite drink, cooking your favorite comfort food, and having soulful talks with people you love and trust are all avenues through which restoration and healing can be found.

Cancer rules the fourth house (house of home, roots/family, inner self) and is a cardinal sign which means that creating a safe and comfortable space, internally and externally, is essential and a pathway to healing for the sign of the crab.

Cancer’s evolutionary goal is to feel life with an open heart, and opening your heart to life requires creating a haven within to allow for our innermost thoughts and feelings to flow through without judgement, just pure compassion.

Cancer (season) is here to teach us healing begins with feeling, and so creating an environment rooted in safety is what allows us to do so.

Cancer gifts us the wisdom that home or safety and comfort isn’t solely a physical location found outside of oneself. It’s also a feeling and presence that can be cultivated both within and in one’s environment among the people, spaces, and places one feels in resonance with.
