Full Moon in Cancer

The first full moon of the new year is happening in Cancer, the archetype of the healer and mother. This full moon is nestled at home in Cancer as the moon rules the sign of the crab.

Cancer’s evolutionary goal is to feel life with an open heart; to tend to the needs of the inner self so that it can safely navigate the deepest parts of itself and life. The full moon sits opposite the Sun in Capricorn, and one thing that bonds the archetype of the healer (Cancer) and the archetype off the elder (Capricorn) is that they both require solitude.

Through solitude, both the crab (Cancer) and the hermit (Capricorn), connect with their innermost self or the quiet voice within which guides them. Both Cancer and Capricorn are concerned with security. For Cancer, security first takes roots internally while Capricorn begins to build upon that  externally.

The full moon also sits opposite Mercury in Capricorn which is currently retrograde which highlights the need for contemplation. Retrogrades provide us with the opportunity to pause, slow down, and reflect. And this full moon is illuminates the ways in which we must first tend to the needs of our inner self (Cancer) before we begin our journey up the mountain (Capricorn).

Reflections:

  • What structures (anything that has the capacity to hold/support you and your intentions) need to be put into place so that you can feel supported as you begin to move into the new year?

  • In what ways can you tend to the needs of yourself (nurturance and nourishment) while you work on external goals?

  • What reminders can you set for yourself so that you don’t bypass your body’s needs as you move through you day?

  • How can you create -softness and comfort in your life to help soothe any challenges that may arise?

New Moon in Capricorn

Capricorn’s evolutionary goal is to find the right mountain (mission, cause, purpose) to climb. One that it would be willing to put all of its effort into no matter how strenuous the climb can get.

During Sagittarius season we envisioned, explored, and tasted what was possible. Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, asked us to dream bigger and believe in ourselves. In comes Saturn, the planet of self-discipline, which wants us to make our visions a reality. What you envision for yourself is possible, but only if you put in the work. And when it comes to Saturn, it’s about giving everything you are capable of giving. With sustained effort, patience, and determination, our vision(s) can begin to take form.

In the same breath, acknowledge how far you’ve already climbed, and stop to take in the view from wherever you are in your journey. The shadow side of Saturn is excessive self-discipline to the point of exhaustion, so remember to celebrate yourself for all the strides you’ve taken and all that you’ve accomplished so far. Every single effort counts.

The new moon makes contact with Jupiter, the planet of faith and expansion, which adds an uplifting touch to this lunation. Jupiter is currently in Aries, the archetype of the pioneer. Aries is about having the courage to go after what you want and knowing that you have the right to claim it. Jupiter also speaks to this as Jupiter asks you to believe that you are worthy of what you dream and envision for yourself.

Under this new moon, find some solitude, and ask yourself: what vision/dream (moon) do you choose to commit (Saturn) to? What direction is your heart (moon) guiding you towards? When it comes to climbing the right mountain, your heart must have the final say otherwise you risk climbing a mountain that isn’t worthy of you and your valuable efforts

The Season of the Sea-Goat (Capricorn Season)

The Sun is now in Capricorn; the archetype of the strategist, elder, and hermit.

Ruled by Saturn, the planet of self-discipline and solitude, this is a time to shift our focus away from the external, and instead focus on our intentions and what we value. It’s a time to create solitude and remain in integrity with oneself regardless of where the world is vying for your attention.

Capricorn’s evolutionary goal is to merge their true nature with their public identity. With its patience, resourcefulness, and self-discipline, Capricorn has the capacity to climb the highest mountain and swim the widest ocean as symbolized by the sea-goat.

Capricorn is associated with the tenth house (of career, mission, public role) and is a cardinal sign which means that for the sign of the strategist finding a mountain/mission that is worthy of their time, effort, and commitmentone where you can share your gifts with your community — is integral to its vitality.

But what mission is worthy of you? The heart knows the answer. And to hear its message, we must spend some time in solitude — a strategy that Capricorn knows well.

Capricorn (season) is here to teach us that in order to reach the top of the mountain, we must stay true to ourselves, our values, and funnel our energy into a cause or mission that we deem worthy of our commitment (time and energy). Capricorn teaches us that there are times when we must say no to external temptations in order to focus on what’s truly important to us, and that focus and determination are key ingredients in making our vision a reality. All of this packaged with some self-care (solitude and taking restorative breaks) will support us in the process of getting there.

Full Moon in Gemini

Gemini’s evolutionary goal is to cultivate a beginner’s mind and find their true voice. The full moon is opposite the Sun in Sagittarius. While both signs have a thirst for learning, Sagittarius is on a quest to find meaning in life while Gemini is here to develop their true voice.

For Gemini, it’s about following your curiosity, asking questions, and living by the motto “whatever I see, the truth is more than that. Gemini seeks questions while Sagittarius seeks answers. Sagittarius deals with the abstract while Gemini deals with what’s tangible. Trusting your senses and insights about what you perceive is essential when it comes to developing your voice or message.

Mars, the planet of action, sits alongside this full moon which is emboldening us to express ourselves. Mars represents our courage, drive, and passion. Being that Mars is also in Gemini, we may be feeling the courage within to let our voice be heard. With both the  Moon and Mars in the sign of the communicator, the themes of communication and learning are being highlighted. When it comes to developing your voice or expanding your knowledge, what interests are feeding your passion (Mars) and curiosity (Gemini)? Pursue that.

Mercury, the ruler of Gemini and this lunation, is currently in Capricorn which speaks to committing to our (intellectual) pursuits. Capricorn is only interested in committing to projects that are worthy of their discipline, time, and concentration. So, ask yourself, what excites (Mars) you, and where and what do you want to funnel your energy (Mars), heart (Moon) and mind (Mercury) into? Release whatever doesn’t fuel you. Choose to recommit or rereoute. It’s okay to change directions or put something down if it no longer fuels you or stimulates you mentally (Mercury), physically (Mars) or emotionally (Moon).

Reflections:

  • Where is your curiosity leading you?

  • What interests or topics do you want to expand your knowledge in?

  • What is something you’re desiring to express and can you harness the courage to express it?
